When I left the assignment, I took a picture I got from a missileer magazine. After moving, I discovered my now ex-wife had thrown it away. I contemplated homicide. We are now divorced not just because of this, but I found out she starred in the movie &quot;The Wizard of Oz&quot; and didn&#39;t play Dorothy. The picture I had was even better than this picture because it showed the warheads coming in through broken clouds with the sun shining through on the whole lagoon of the atoll at an angle where the warheads were coming down almost on top of the camera. Way cool! After realizing it was gone and resolution of my homicidal thoughts, I called up the magazine where I got it and asked for another copy of it. Lo and behold! The guy I talked to told me they couldn&#39;t send me one because, due to the fact it was a Classified picture, they weren&#39;t supposed to publish it in the first place. %$#@!!! An interesting fact about these tests was told to me when I was in training. A reputable, ranking individual said the test range maintained a policy of a clean bottom of the atoll and each time a warhead impacted the atoll lagoon, divers would go down and get the pieces. I was tempted to dispute this because, since I know some things about ballistic objects, I think it is unlikely there is much left of the warheads except dust since they hit the water at 12,000 mph. But discretion being the better part of valor and being polite, I didn&#39;t dispute his veracity. Looking at your picture, I contemplated how long it would take for one of the warheads traveling at that awesome speed to go from barely observable in the sky to impacting the water. If my calculations are correct, the warheads would travel from 35,000 feet to sea level in about two seconds. If all goes well you will be sent preliminary offer papers outlining the length of your contract, pending a medical evaluation and background check/security clearance (depending on the job). Once you pass the medical and background check you will be contacted to make your pack-out arrangements and plane tickets. The deployment process takes anywhere from 4-8 weeks, as long as there are no snags. I STRONGLY recommend you apply for a passport; it&#39;s required to travel out here. The local housing market is actually interesting...if you look beyond 15 miles from the city ($100k-$150k will buy a 3-bedroom on five acres, built in the 1970s). Taxes are reasonable. Crime is not a big issue. The airport offers around twenty-five flights a day. There&#39;s a dozen lakes within an hour&#39;s drive if you want to fish. And there&#39;s plenty of civilization...if you want it....or quiet country-atmosphere as well. The negative? Case in point: a batch of licenses was sent for processing to Majuro; they insisted on faxing them. It took them some time to get the callsigns issued, especially when the telephone company cuts off the phone to the ministry! And to add insult to injury, someone didn&#39;t bother to connect the fax machine after service was restored! Eventually, the licenses were issued, almost a year later.<br /><br />The club usually processes the paperwork for the RMI ham license; Kwaj call signs are V73XX or V73XXX; the last three letters being traditionally the initials of the operator. When I do get my RMI license it&#39;ll probably be V73CC or V73CEC.
