... before I fly off this rock for some vacation! Hard to believe that only a few months ago (back in October) I made my plans for this vacation - time flies when you're having fun out here! Granted, I was already beginning to feel the effects of 'rock fever' but I'm glad I broke up my vacation in two smaller periods; it does make things easier.
Finishing packing my bags and cleaning up my BQ room tonight. One more nine-hour work day today, five hours Wednesday (making up time working through lunch to get the afternoon off), then take care of any last-minute preparations before checking in at the Kwaj terminal at 4:15 pm.
Full trip report in my next blog post.
Waiting patiently for the post vacation update. I am going to be applying for a position on Kwaj this week. I really hope to get the (any) job on the island.
ReplyDeleteWas wondering if you could answer a few questions about the process for me?
John
More than happy to answer any questions you may have.
ReplyDeleteIf you're selected as a candidate for a position on island you'll probably get a call or email from the hiring manager to set up a telephone interview. If all goes well you will be sent preliminary offer papers outlining the length of your contract, pending a medical evaluation and background check/security clearance (depending on the job). Once you pass the medical and background check you will be contacted to make your pack-out arrangements and plane tickets. The deployment process takes anywhere from 4-8 weeks, as long as there are no snags. I STRONGLY recommend you apply for a passport; it's required to travel out here. May cost a bit, but it's good for ten years.
