Middle of the month, getting ready for the Martin Luther King birthday holiday weekend. The slow holiday period ended with a vengeance - the range safety ship Worthy returned to Kwaj. And now to finish working on and closing out about a half dozen projects on the Worthy that were deferred while the ship was out to sea supporting missions.
Helped build a new 'tiki bar' in the Vets' Hall patio area. The previous one was on its last legs and was frequently the target of 'barf attacks' from drunk partiers, along with being exposed to the elements and lots of spilled beer and other drinks. It's designed to be easier to clean than the old bar - just hose it down with a pressure washer! Eventually a sheet stainless steel bar top will be installed.
The new bar extension is now operational, though the new ice maker is giving us fits during installation. Knowing how the usual Vets' Hall volunteer crew works, we'll improvise, adapt and overcome the problem at hand. It's now much easier for the bar staff to stock the bar without them having to exit the bar area, especially on crowded nights.
My stateside car is now paid off and my title and satisfaction of lien was received at my mom's house the other day. That's $300 less I have to deal with per month, and the car still runs fine - just so long as I remind someone (either my mom or brother) to drive it around every once in a while.
Still haven't heard anything about staffing CAP Pacific Region Staff College. I timed my vacation to work it; this and CAP National Staff College is all I need to complete the requirements of Level 5 of the CAP professional development program and earn the prestigious Gill Robb Wilson award. (It's similar to - but not quite the equivalent of - the cadet program's General Carl Spaatz award, which I never earned). Either way, I'll have me some vacation time - anything just to get off the rock! Then three days, four nights in Honolulu before my parole from Kwajatraz ends.
Once vacation is done and over with I'm still seriously thinking about taking scuba diving lessons. The amazing descriptions and photographs from some of the scuba divers here in Kwaj make it worth my while to at least try it out.
