Hard to believe it but Sunday marks my official one year anniversary of first landing on Kwajalein to begin my adventures in paradise -smack in the middle of nowhere! I've been having fun so far; have a great job, and the pace is quite tranquil compared to the pressure cooker back in the mainland. I've met many people here I can definitely call friends (but not really close friends) that generally share the same attitude I have about island life. I'm used to the long supply lines, crummy TV programming, slow internet, and the liberal application of 'Kwaj logic' (it just doesn't make sense anywhere else!) throughout the island at work and at home.
On the first payday of August (yesterday) I received my 'bonus'; the amount of a round trip ticket from Kwaj to Hono (currently at $1275) and another $1500 for travel from Honolulu to my 'point of origin', on top of my regular paycheck. Paid bills and socked away some money for my next trip off island. I'm looking at just traveling to Honolulu and meeting my mother and brother there in mid-March of next year, spending a little more time (about a week) to enjoy the sights of the city.
