Normally, mail is delivered on Tuesdays and Thursdays on the Air Transport International flight from Honolulu except on the second Thursday of the month, when there is no ATI flight. A C-17 from Hickam usually delivers mail and cargo on the second Saturday. However, due to unforeseen circumstances the C-17 flight is delayed 72 hours, so it's arriving on Tuesday, along with ATI's Tuesday flight and Air Mike's Island Hopper. It's gonna be a Mongolian cluster fuck of epic proportions on the Kwaj ramp... the passenger service reps at the terminal I know are not looking forward to Tuesday!
Not expecting much except for a couple of orders I placed a couple of weeks ago which should be on the plane Tuesday. Likewise, I'm not going to order anything between now and the next couple of weeks, since I will be going off island on home leave. I'll save my money to do the serious shopping when I'm back on the mainland.
All mail sent to military APOs and FPOs (Army/Air Force and Fleet (Navy/Marines) Post Offices) are sorted in military postal facilities, normally Travis AFB, California for the Pacific and McGuire AFB, New Jersey for Europe and 'downrange' (Iraq and Afghanistan). They are then placed on Air Mobility Command aircraft (military or contract carrier) to the postal center nearest the location; in our case it's Honolulu (Hickam AFB). Finally it's loaded onto the ATI or the C-17 to Kwaj, space available. Delivery guarantees do not apply to packages sent to APOs or FPOs. Depending on timing, it takes an average of two weeks for a package to arrive in Kwaj.
