Almost pau hana and my beer drinking hand is already twitching for a cold one (or three or four) at Vets' Hall tonight. Get me drunk enough, I might attempt to belt out some karaoke. I'm not quitting my day job for a singing career.
The final - and yes, I mean final - fitting for my dentures at the dental hobby shop was done today. (Not knocking my dentist - he's done a very professional job with the limited resources at hand here on Kwaj.)
Nice to see my new teeth are almost in final form in a wax mould. After some minor adjustments and bite registration (complete with gobs of foul-tasting dental putty) the wax moulds were promptly packed for shipment to the lab for final construction. They'll go out on Tuesday's ATI flight back to the mainland. In about another 5-6 weeks (by the end of May, hopefully) I'll have a new set of dentures. Could have been done sooner in the mainland or cheaper in the Philippines, but the extra time waiting helped to have my gums completely healed before the denture work began. And I didn't have to go off island on a dental referral.
Back to Vets' Hall on Sunday to help with the cooking for a PCS party. On Monday, going to go get my Marshall Islands drivers' license - mostly for souvenir purposes, since I don't have to drive a motor vehicle except when necessary on Kwaj.
Mission coming up next week... those directly supporting it are busting their asses to make it a success. I won't say much more about that.
Majuro and Ebeye are now lit with fiber on the new submarine cable; ours is still undergoing DIACAP (DoD Information Assurance Certification and Accreditation Process) certification before it's released to both the .mil and the public side. We might have high speed before too long! High speed junkies can take the ferry to Ebeye and go to the NTA (Marshall Islands National Telecommunications Authority) office and get 100 minutes of high speed connection for $10.00. I can live a little longer on dial-up speeds.
